Demonstrations of skills and crafts from the past, blacksmithing, mules grinding sugar cane, and corn milling at the 1845 water-powered grist mill. There will be candle making, cooking demonstrations, basket weaving, nature hikes and more. School groups and large groups must call to schedule. Each November, the Museum’s Rikard’s Mill Historical Park in Beatrice returns to Pioneer Days. Just a short drive north of Monroeville, the park features an 1845 working grist mill built by Jake Rikard. Powered by water from Flat Creek, the mill still grinds corn into grits and corn meal. The park includes a sugar cane mill, a blacksmith shop, the “miller’s cabin” and an old covered bridge gift shop. Students can see a number of old tools and farm machinery…

Cane Syrup Making Day-Beatrice

$7 adults, $5 seniors & children Join us for a day of family fun. Watch a 20th-century mule-driven cane mill and furnace make cane syrup as in olden days. 2020 Cane Syrup Makin’ Day at Rikard’s Mill Historical Park

Cane Syrup Makin' Day is an annual tradition, held the first Saturday in November. Watch as sugar cane is squeezed in a mule-driven cane grinder, boiled into syrup and then canned. Syrup for sale as it cooks off and is bottled. Food vendors on site. Hours are 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
