Winter Bird Walk at Old Cahawba
February 7, 2015 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am
Old Cahawba Archaeological Park will have its first Winter Bird Walk on Saturday, February 7, 2015, from 8:00 to 10:00 AM. Meet at the visitor’s center, rain or shine. The activity fee is $8 per adult. The first ten participants also receive a FREE bird nest box kit.
All skill levels are welcome to attend this bird-walk. Knowledgeable birders will guide you through the identification of the “little brown jobs” that abound at this time of year.
Who knows what we’ll find, but on recent visits we’ve seen a wide variety of “brown jobs,” ranging from the “large” (like Bald Eagles and Turkey Vultures) to Barred Owls, Brown Thrashers and Hermit Thrushes on down to White-throated Sparrows, Carolina Wrens & Chipping Sparrows. So mark your calendars and plan on joining us for a morning of bird watching at Alabama’s first capitol.
Don’t miss this opportunity to explore this great archeological park! (For even more birding opportunities, visit the nearby Old Cahawba Prairie Preserve.) Read up on the exploratory walk we took last year and the cool old names of some of the birds common to Old Cahawba now–and then.
