Wilcox County was one of many counties where African Americans were denied voting rights even after the famous Selma to Montgomery march. ┬áMaria Gitin was one of hundreds of students who answered Dr. King’s call to assist local communities with voter registration efforts. Join the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail in welcoming Maria Gitin as she shares her experiences as a college freshman from California working side by side with African Americans to ensure voting rights in Wilcox County, AL in 1965.
