Beatrice Pilgrimage on Parade

On Saturday, April 9 the Beatrice Garden Club will be hosting a tour of historical interest in the Beatrice area. The tour, Beatrice Pilgrimage on Parade, will feature homes. stores, churches and cemeteries of significance to Monroe County.
Among those being shown are Turnbull, the 1838 McCreary house owned by Dr. and Mrs. Phillip Hardee, Turnbull Cemetery, “Old Pineville Place”, the beautifully restored farm house which is the home of Faye Cater Bullock; the circa 1835 Burgess-Sanders Steele house, New Purchase Church, the Commissary, Miss Minnie and Me Antiques and Gifts, Finklea’s General Store, the Beatrice Garden Club Memorial Garden and Clubhouse, the Mary Elizabeth house circa 1906, Robbins Hotel, and the lovely old Beatrice Methodist Church, which is the home of the Beatrice Community church. Billy and Joycelyn Thames invite everyone to the garden and patio of their home “Bellaflora” for rest and refreshments.
The nearby Village of Buena Vista, which is supported by the Estate of O.P. “Sonny” Turner, will feature Concord Baptist Church, organized in 1831. The Turner House, the quaint Mark Corr house, J.J. Finklea & Sons General Store, the old school house and the Buena Vista Cemetery.
The tour will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 4 p.m,. Tickets are $15 per person for the tour. They may be purchased in advance by calling 251-789-2505 or 251-789-2631 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org . They can also be purchased the day of the tour at the Commissary. Sack lunches will be offered but should be purchase no later than April 1 for $7.50. Maps and brochures will be available on the day of the tour.
