The Alabama Writers Symposium is a gathering of Alabama writers and scholars for readings and performances in Monroeville, the Literary Capital of Alabama. Each year, attendees gather in the Literary Capital of Alabama to celebrate the best of Alabama literature. The symposium features moderated sessions, Q&A’s, and book readings, as well as a banquet honoring the yearly winners of the Harper Lee Award for Alabama’s Distinguished Writer, the Eugene Current Garcia Award for Alabama’s Distinguished Literary Scholar, and the Truman Capote Award for Alabama’s Distinguished Short Story or Literary Non-Fiction Writer.
