2016 Celebration of Memories June 3, 2016: Annual Kathryn Tucker Windham Birthday Celebration

The 2016 Kathryn Tucker Windham Birthday Celebration is a daylong celebration which will include special exhibits, a bus tour to Windham Thomasville landmarks and to Gee’s Bend, and lunch at a haunted mansion in Camden. First, visitors will stroll the Kathryn Tucker Windham, viewing the KTW Collection and special exhibits. Special exhibits include “Looking Back at Gee’s Bend: The Photographs of John Reese, (sponsored by the Birmingham Public Library) and an exhibit featuring a collection of art quilts designed by Dorothy Shepard, artist of the “KTW Quilt,” which currently hangs in the museum. Her collection will also include some traditional quilts, handcrafted dolls, and other art forms. Dorothy will provide a brief presentation and offer an opportunity for Q&A. Then, it’s off to the KTW Storytelling Bus Tour. This year’s bus tour will consist of the following: 1) Windham’s childhood and storytelling landmarks in Thomasville, 2) Gee’s Bend Quilt Trail in Boykin, 3) Gaines Ridge Mansion ghost story, lunch & more quilts in Camden, and 4) Black Belt Treasures in Camden.  RSVP is required. BUS SEATING IS LIMITED. Register early! $30 registration includes bus tour, lunch, museum tour, and souvenir.
