William Barret Travis House

The William B. Travis House is a two-story historic cottage the town of Claiborne, AL. The house was built around 1820 by William B. Travis, who lived there while studying law under future Alabama congressman James Dellet. While in Claiborne, Travis founded and published the Claiborne Herald Newspaper. In 1831, facing mounting debts, Travis moved to Texas and continued to practice law until he was commissioned a lieutenant in the Texas militia. He died at the infamous Battle of the Alamo in 1836.
