Original Site of Tent City/Lowndes County Interpretative Center

Located in Lowndes County | What you’ll find: Historical | Museum

In 1965, white landowners evicted a large amount of black sharecropper families for attempting to and/or registering to vote. Following these evictions, tents were established to house these homeless families. The original Tent City is located off of the US Highway 80 West. More history and information of this location can be accessed at the Lowndes County Interpretive Center.
