Antioch Baptist Church, which opened in 1885, is one of the oldest African-American churches in Wilcox County.  It sits on a rise on the outskirts of Camden, in the heart of Alabama’s Black Belt region. The church has served the spiritual needs of the community for many generations. In the 1960s, it became a crossroads of the civil rights movement. The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke at the church in 1965. But in recent years the church building had fallen into disrepair. Thanks to the efforts of congregants, and help from the community, the church was restored, and recently won an award from the Alabama Historical Commission. The church is located just south of downtown Camden.
