Choctaw National Wildlife Refuge

Choctaw County Wildlife Preserve, Choctaw County, AlabamaChoctaw National Wildlife Refuge located in the southeastern corner of the county along the Tombigbee River. The Chocktaw National Wildlife Refuge was established as a protected wintering area for migratory waterfowl and wood duck production and is home to Bald Eagles and Wood Storks. Ezell's Fish Camp

Ezells Fish CampEstablished in 1937, Ezell’s Fish Camp is known to attract locals, famous, and the not so famous. Quoted by some as a “cultural institution”, Ezell’s represents a way of life connected to communities and river heritage. Believed to have built by French traders, and used as a trading post, the remains were purchased by Charles Agnew Ezell and now stand as a dog trot cabin, with in and out door dining. Be sure to try the deep fried pickles.

Choctaw County Courthouse

Built in 1906-1907 this courthouse houses public records and research material for the probate office. A Confederate Soldier Monument carved in Italy was erected in 1936. The original building was erected in 1848, but two fires caused the citizen’s of Choctaw County to rebuild. The latest wing was completed in 1965. A Military Memorial Walkway leads to the court house that commemorates Choctaw County dead and other serving in war or peace.

Choctaw County Historical Museum

From fossils to old tractors, all of the artifacts have a history and the Museum Curator is happy to give all of the info you need. Consisting of three buildings, the main building holds all of the Civil War Rifles and artifacts and the Indian artifacts. The building directly behind the main building has some of the old farm implements and old cars. The building to the left of the main building is set up as an Old Country Store as you would have seen it during the turn of the century. You can walk through it and imagine yourself in a simpler time and place!
