The Alabama Rural Heritage Center
The Alabama Rural Heritage Center is located on Hwy 25 in Thomaston. It is located in a building designed by the famous Auburn Rural Studio. This building was the former Home Economics Building of Marengo County High School. It houses an art gallery featuring Alabama Artists. There is a Pepper Jelly Wall leading into the gift shop. Pepper Jelly is the signature product of the Center. It is featured in many dishes served in the restaurant Mama Nem’s Bistro which is open to groups by appointment. All the peppers used in the pepper jelly are locally grown and organic. The pepper jelly may be purchased in the gift shop on site or in selected shops and galleries through out the state. The Rural Heritage Center preserves rural traditions. Throughout the year, they feature special events such as plays and luncheons, seminars. classes and other activities highlighting Alabama’s Rural Heritage.
